I'm creating a new digital primary outdoor media platform. I hesitate to call it a magazine because the term doesn’t quite fit the scope. I find I want to read stories from adventurers beyond my personal hobbies and work avenues, and most print magazines focus on a single sport. Since I couldn't find exactly what I wanted out there, I figured I'd try to make it myself! But I need your help.

Introducing Adventure Rx

To start, my goal is this:

  1. Fill a gap in the market. There are wonderful print magazines across the outdoor markets (long-form, sustainability, backpacking, and travel), but fewer options that highlight multiple activities and adventures in a digital primary format.

  2. Adventures come in all shapes and sizes. This publication will feature genuine stories from both average adventurers and more professional-level athletes.

  3. I envision stories on the shorter side (800-1200 words) with nice photos to accentuate the tale. However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be room for longer tales.

  4. Stories from all types of adventures so readers can experience a wide range of exploits. Fly fishing, mountain biking, paragliding, ADV motoing, backpacking, canyoneering, kayaking, sport-biving, etc. Stories may feature a single sport or multiple sports, be epic, casual, or family-friendly, done with friends, solo, etc.

  5. Stories would be released over the course of a month, rather than all at once in a single issue.

Future development:

Increased number of stories, video story support, podcasts/interviews, gear reviews (from gear used in the stories), and more.

To get this project going, I need your help!

First, I want your opinions and feedback. If you have a few moments, please take my survey!

I will put together a Kickstarter, but first, I want your feedback! The Kickstarter is mainly meant to have enough start-up funds to pay writers for their stories and hire a web designer to make this platform look like what’s in my head! One day, years down the road, maybe I’ll get paid too…

In an effort to keep this user/reader friendly, I want to keep ads specific and to a minimum. This means that the project will eventually probably need to be a paid subscription.

If you’ve taken the survey but still want to help now:

  1. Are you a web designer willing to donate some of your time? I'd love to chat.

  2. Donate a story to help fill out the platform!

  3. Silent investor? I won’t say no to that! Let's connect.
